Dewi Wyn Hughes is a mechanical and electrical engineering degree apprentice at the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency, and a member of the tunnels team. He will be working as an apprentice over a period of three years with the Agency.

He said:

"After completing GCSE exams I went on to Coleg Llandrillo Menai in Llangefni to complete a Level 3 Electrical Engineering course over a period of two years and I then decided to apply to be an apprentice with the Agency.

I applied to be an apprentice as I believe this is an amazing opportunity for me to work and learn while working with very experienced colleagues. I also have the opportunity to complete a degree over a period of three years.

The advantage of starting a career as an apprentice is the fact that I receive training and direct experience with a qualified engineer. I can also develop my education further.

I would strongly recommend to anyone considering becoming an apprentice, to complete an apprenticeship as it is a great opportunity to learn and work while completing a sponsored degree.

I hope to learn as much as possible on the job, working hard to be successful in order to complete my degree, with the hope of then getting a full-time job.

I am very grateful to the Agency, as I have learned a lot about how the road network is maintained and managed and received my first experience in the working world from them. I also receive support and feedback from my colleagues every day. I also had an amazing experience and learned a lot on the job.
